The Effects on Smoking Cessation Following the Internet Exploration and Video Education among the High School Students

Abstract
This pre-post quasi-experimental study was designed to compare the educational effects of two different teaching methods-Internet and Video assisted education-on students¢¥ knowledge, attitude and behavior about smoking.
The subjects of this experiment consist of 94 high school students for Internet group and 96 students for Video group.
This study was done by having the first group only watch video and the second group watch the same video, search Internet and-also take a note.

The results of this study were as follows:
1. The average amount of their allowances was 19,140 won per week. Most of them were satisfied with their school life and 36.8% of them had low rate of school achievement.
2. All of the 38(20%) students were current smokers. Among their friends who smoke, 63.2% were boys and 36.8% were girls.
For the smoking rate of their family members, father comes in first, and then grandfather, brother, grandmother, finally and very rarely mother and sister.
3. The results showed that Internet assisted education had more effects on the students¢¥ smoking knowledge than Video. But their attitude and behavior about smoking were not much changed after both education.
According to this result, the Internet is a more effective educational aid to improve the students¢¥ smoking knowledge, but it is clear that the intervention of the teacher during the regular classes can improve the education effects.
